Emergency housing and support

Supporting LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees in the UK

One of the foundation objects is “to relieve the needs of those who are socially excluded”.

In exceptional circumstances the MRI Foundation will:

  • Facilitate access and pay for emergency accommodation from local providers (shelters, hostels, Micro Rainbow housing and others) for those LGBTI asylum seekers who are street homeless. The length of such support varies according to the funds available, but it generally varies between one to four weeks.
  • Offer LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees in need one-off financial support of up to £20 (for example to buy food, medicines or to travel to attend key meetings) and other emergency items.
  • Contribute £5-£10 towards transport costs for LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees to attend key meetings such as tribunal hearings, medical appointments, job interviews and social inclusion workshops

Please note the foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for emergency support.

The foundation has very limited resources which are allocated to individuals in emergency situations who are identified directly by the foundation’s volunteers and partners. This programme is only available to LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees in the UK.
